Disney+ is set to make waves once again with its latest original series, Low Life, and it’s not just the plot that’s drawing buzz—the cast is a who’s who of powerhouse talent.
On July 8, the press conference for Low Life was held at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, bringing together major names like Ryu Seung Ryong, Yang Se Jong, Im Soo Jung, Kim Eui Seong, Kim Sung Oh, Lee Dong Hwi, and TVXQ’s Jung Yunho, along with director Kang Yoon-seong.
Adapted from the webtoon by acclaimed creator Yoon Tae-ho (Misaeng, Inside Men), Low Life dives into the lives of humble but determined villagers in 1977 who band together in search of a sunken treasure ship—only to find themselves caught in a whirlwind of deceit. It’s a mix of history, human drama, and dark comedy, wrapped in Kang Yoon-seong’s trademark cinematic storytelling.

A Passion Project Rooted in the Past
Director Kang, best known for helming Big Bet on Disney+, shared how Low Life became a deeply personal journey.
“This project gave me a chance to understand how my parents lived during the 1970s—what they struggled with, what they dreamed about,” he said. “I focused on two things: capturing the feel of that era, and exploring how goals and relationships shape each character’s choices.”
While Big Bet was built from scratch, Kang approached Fine with reverence for the original material.
“This time, I respected the structure of the webtoon,” he explained. “I kept the main plot intact and built around the characters to fill in the emotional gaps.”
A Cast Bursting with Chemistry
The actors on stage clearly shared a deep admiration for one another.
Im Soo Jung, reuniting with Ryu Seung-ryong 13 years after Everything About My Wife, said,
“Working with such incredible actors—true masters—was a gift. I learned so much about character development just by watching them.”
Yang Se Jong echoed the sentiment, describing the set as a living masterclass:
“Our seniors weren’t just acting; they became the characters. Being around that level of performance helped me grow, both as an actor and as a person.”
Ryu Seung Ryong called the experience irreplaceable.
“Projects like this don’t come around often,” he said. “It was such a rich and fulfilling environment. Honestly, I didn’t want it to end.”
U-Know Yunho Returns to Acting
Making a notable comeback as an actor, Jung Yunho (TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho) plays the character Beolgu, a role that pushed him both emotionally and artistically.
“Beolgu is nothing like me, so I had to really step out of my comfort zone. I leaned a lot on the director for guidance,” he shared.
He also expressed his gratitude to Ryu Seung-ryong, with a playful nod to his now-viral meme.
“When I was unsure, Seung-ryong sunbaenim told me, ‘This is no joke. You better be ready.’ And he meant it. That line became a real turning point for me.”
Yunho ended his speech on a thoughtful note, earning applause from the room:
“I just hope this drama ends with all of us saying, ‘Fine, thank you.’”
Release Schedule
Low Life will premiere with three episodes on July 16, followed by two episodes each on July 23, July 30, August 6, and August 13, for a total of 11 episodes.
With a magnetic cast, a director who knows how to blend style and soul, and a story that dives deep into ambition, betrayal, and the human condition, Fine looks poised to be another Disney+ hit. Whether you’re in it for the drama, the nostalgia, or the stellar performances, this is one series you won’t want to miss.
