Scheduled to air on September 22, Song of the Bandits promises a riveting historical narrative.
Song of the Bandits action-adventure set in the tumultuous period of Japanese colonial rule over Korea about a group of people who, for various reasons, end up in the lawless land of Gando and become united in protecting Joseon for the Korean people.
Anticipation runs high for the intense drama that will unfold as different groups with their respective motives — including Japanese troops, the Korean Independence Army, hitmen, bandits, and Joseon migrants — face one another in the anarchic land of Gando during the 1920s.
Writer Han Jung-hoon and director Hwang Jun-hyuk team up again for Song of the Bandits after having delivered spectacular, exhilarating action and drama with their previous projects, including Bad Guys: Vile City and Squad 38.
The released trailer begins with intense and bold action taking place in Gando, China’s land of turbulence, with Japanese money and people from Joseon flocking to it. The bandits, who have gathered to live like human beings, fight to protect precious things by speeding through the wasteland amidst sandstorms.
Expectations for fresh action pouring through the thick dusty wind rise like a scene from a western movie. “Bandit” in the title of the work does not simply mean a thief stealing other people’s things, but it also incorporates the words swords and knife translating to the “song of the sword”.
Giving a glimpse of the story Kim Nam Gil shared what to expect in the series. He portrays Lee Yoon, the leader of the bandits.
“There are people who live to regain their country, but the difference is that it is a story about people who live while protecting the people around them.”
Notably, the poster released together shows Lee Yoon standing alone under a vast sky. Against the background of the vast wilderness of Gando, Lee Yoon, wearing a cowboy hat and a long fluttering coat, holds a long gun. It arouses curiosity about the story of how he became a thief.
