Destined With You Opening Week Story
Time is running out for Jang Shin-yu who was alerted by his doctor about his rare disease. Advised to leave his job as his medical condition will only get worse, he hangs on to another hope that would free him from a family curse.
Enter Lee Hong-jo who is said to be the person holding the key to a book of spells that can break Shin-yu free from the “bloody red hand monster” that continuously haunts him.
Shin-yu, who used to work for a top law firm, decides to work at Onju City Hall where Hong-jo has also recently got transferred, too.
Their fates keep tangling as Shin-yu is said to be the owner of a mountain shaman shrine where a YouTuber unfortunately died. Receiving complaints from the YouTuber’s parents backed up by citizens, Hong-jo volunteers to take care of the problem.
With that, she meets Shin-yu for the first time after slipping inside the shaman shrine. She thought she was already being escorted by a grim reaper only to be awakened by her colleague.
Meeting Shin-yu again who turns out to be the owner of the shaman shrine, they run for more encounters as he presented an old wooden box that only she can open.
When it finally opened, it holds a book of spells written by a shaman. Shin-yu asks her to give one spell from the books.
When Hong-jo becomes a hot topic after a viral video of her being dumped got caught, she performs a love spell ritual from the book. Simultaneously, Shin-yu who is driving also gets attacked by the bloody red hand monster.
Destined With You Opening Week Musings
Korean fantasy-romance fans are in for a treat in Destined With You.
We can see the attention right away in creating the connection between Shin-yu and Hong-jo in the launch week of the series.
At the same time, there’s a strong description of how their characters were pictured and how their goals are set to align in the future.
Rowoon as a cold lawyer plagued with a problem that his intellect and almost perfect specs can’t solve settles, for a shamanic ritual that could dispel the curse he suffers. His polished appeal and unfazed attitude show committed assimilation to his role, so far.
Jo Bo Ah playing the isolated female lead Hong-jo would most likely be involved in a more elaborate character growth. Described as an outcast with an unrequited love, she looks ready to navigate an eventful adventure.
Ha Jun as always delivers distinction to drama character no matter how trite it is. He is surely on his way of becoming one of the most reliable character actors of his generation. Hopefully, his love line with Hong-jo would be highlighted spiritedly.
On the other hand, Yura, hopefully, brings a new flavor to her role which felt familiar on its first look, especially, if you’ve seen her in Forecasting Love and Weather. Her character Na-yeon appears going to settle some issues with Hong-jo.
Evidently, the journey of the eventual love pairing will be met with challenges as they work their way out of respective side love stories.
How Shin-yu would need Hong-jo to break his curse and every interesting in-betweens set to happen would pan out in the future episodes.
Let fated connection and romance warm your heart in Destined With You. International fans can watch the series on Netflix.
