Stealer: The Treasure Keeper Episodes 3 and 4 Highlights
Last week, Skunk and Ms. Lee retrieved “jikji”. Skunk went back to Mr. Choi’s house unaware that Chief Jang is also there. At gunpoint of Chief Jang, Dae-myung escapes the scene and promises a gift he will send tomorrow to him.
‘We need Hwang Dae-myung to get to Skunk.”
The next day, it is a happy occasion for the Cultural Heritage Administration as the police retrieved the original Jikji sent by Dae-myung/Skunk.
Excited about the promised party by the department head, Dae-myung’s mood turns sour when Min-woo dragged him to Mr. Choi’s house using her knowledge of him sleeping on duty.
Apparently, Chief Jang suspects Dae-myung might be acquainted with Skunk since the items he has received thus far are listed on a document that Dae-myung previously wrote.
Cultural Heritage Administration is put in a sticky situation because of a prized 12th Century Celadon Flower and Crane vase from the Goryeo dynasty that has been set for auction. The owner is Kim Young-soo, an influential businessman who is the boss of assassin Huin-dal.
Over alcohol, Min-woo listens to Chief Jang’s grand dream of working together with Skunk to retrieve the cultural assets that are hidden and should’ve returned to the country.
On the day of the auction, Dae-myung is confident to secure the Celadon vase as he is acquainted with his competition, a Korean-Chinese businessman. He also asks Ms. Lee to hike up the cost of the vase by competing with the bidding to create a distraction as he prepares to transform into Skunk.
“You guys have one week to bring his head and my money!”
After getting Ms. Lee’s money, they also donate the vase to the government. Chairman Kim whose money for the vase was stolen orders his man to retrieve it at all costs.
Coincidentally, he sees the TV program which featured the siblings selling their grandmother’s coin. He right away commands Huin-dal to retrieve it.
Meanwhile, Cultural Heritage Team stumbles on the murders associated with the seven Joseon Tongbo. Chief Jang narrates the events way back in the time of Admiral Yi Sun Shin.
He also relays how the seven Joseon coins with holes are supposed to be a clue to a hidden treasure that was not brought by Japanese looters during that time.
Remembering the coin of the siblings she met prior, Min-woo called but was not able to reach them. Later, the convent where she stayed called to inform her about the children brought by a priest before Huin-dal. Fortunately, the priest who rescued them is another infamous cultural thief.
“Those who are protected by the law should be punished by an outlaw.”
Proceeding with the next mission they have, Skunk and Ms. Lee confiscate cultural assets illegally claimed by a real estate businessman. Min-woo who was tasked to get Dae-myung to join their team wakes up in the morning. Her diligence led her to intrude Dae-myung’s abode and finds him just as he was done bathing.
She drags Dae-myung to meet her team and Chief jang proceeds with an offer to help them relay information to Skunk.
Interestingly, even when Dae-myung revealed that he is Skunk, the team does not believe him. Chief Jang asserts wanting to meet Skunk so Dae-myung relents. However, he insists to know the project they are working on.
Officially welcomed to Team Karma, Dae-myung rides on their request. He transforms into Skunk to meet them.
At Chairman Kim’s lair, he reads a Japanese book that chronicles Admiral Yi’s diary. Explained in there is the Joseon treasure and a Baekje artifact that promises eternal life.
Stealer: The Treasure Keeper Episodes 3 and 4 Musings
Keeping its engrossing vibe, Stealer: The Treasure Keeper is serving amusement and history which makes it a refreshing series to keep tabs on.
Joo Won in his trot number brings back his Bridal Mask dapper club performance days. He’s really great in gravitating viewers to his endearing dual characters so far.
Some delightful notes in the series are the quick trips to the backstories of the characters. As seen in the first week, Skunk’s history was pictured to have gone through tough times before he perfected his craft.
This week, we were introduced to his remarkable connection with the rich and genius hacker Ms. Lee. Moreover, the master-slave connection between Chairman Kim and Huin-dal was also elaborated.
Now, that the ultimate goal of the story has been revealed, which is treasure hunting, this would shape how the story unfolds. Huin-dal who is more motivated to catch Skunk and the other cultural thief who got one of the seven Joseon coins adds excitement to the narrative.
It is also curious to know where the final Joseon coin is. How Team Karma can outsmart Chairman Kim is the direction viewers will take in the series.
Support Dae-myung and Skunk as he works on protecting cultural assets in Stealer: The Treasure Keeper every Wednesday and Thursday on tvN.
