Joseon Attorney Episodes 3 and 4 Highlights
“I wish to cut out the rotten things of this world by using the law, then sprout new life in return.”
In a flashback, Yeon-joo sees her father in a room dead after meeting Executive Minister Yoo from the door. She successfully sneaks the book of the law from that room. At present, she gives it to the King while vouching that Han-soo can wield the sword of the law.
Giving the best offers and treatment to Han-soo, Yeon-joo still gets rejected to be an assistant. However, Han-soo later leaves a qualifying task to her on creating a similar pouch to his.
Yoo Ji-sun, son of Executive Minister Yoo, gets promoted to a higher position and becomes a magistrate. Commissioner Park holds a banquet, which wins him a high position from Executive Minister Yoo.
Han-soo sneaks himself in, and imagines himself assassinating his family’s perpetrators, but abandons his agenda and sticks to finding the truth. On the other end, Yeon-joo saves Lady Yeon from ending her life in the waters.
“Hastily trusting a person is poison for an attorney.”
Bruised and battered, Yeon-joo learns about Lady Yeon’s painful life in marriage. Forwarding the divorce case to Han-soo, Yeon-joo feels perplexed with Han-soo refusing money to take on a case.
Lurking on Commissioner Park’s flaws through Myung-wol, Han-soo realizes that the divorce case Yeon-joo was talking about is about Commissioner Park’s wife.
Though calling it an impossible divorce case at first, Han-soo comes with Yeon-joo to find Lady Yeon. Finding Lady Yeon arrested, Han-soo suggests she endure the bashing on her case since what’s important is her inheritance and revenge. However, Yeon-joo disagrees with him and fires him.
“After all, the law is like a handkerchief to those who are wronged, I believe.”
Arguing about standard tactics, Yeon-joo sticks to her decision of firing Han-soo. Meanwhile, Han-soo leaves her subtle hints on how to win the trial while still believing she’ll come to hire him again.
Fooled by a spy implanted on Lady Yeon’s side, Yeon-joo entrusts the written testimonies to their new attorney who later runs away with them. Commissioner Park calls out Han-soo for sneaking into his banquet and hires him to seek advice on how to win this case.
Myung-wol entertains both Han-soo and Yeon-joo at the same time, and receives two gifts that persuade her. Provoking Commissioner Park about Myung-wol’s loyalty, Han-soo witnesses the commissioner’s violence toward her and remembers his parents’ death.
“There is nothing in this world that is fair.”
Aware of his son’s donations to Sowongak run by Princess Yeon-joo, Executive Minister Yoo requests Magistrate Yoo to side with one of his loyal men, Commissioner Park. However, Magistrate Yoo remains impartial in his decision.
Waking up tied in a ship stuck in the middle of the sea, Han-soo seeks help with a torch. Still weak from his wound, he jumps to the sea with a floater. However, he sinks and gets rescued by Yeon-joo who wished for him to come back as Lady Yeon’s attorney. Arriving at the trial soaked, Han-soo flawlessly defends Lady Yeon’s case with the shocking testimony of Myung-wol, who was thought to be dead.
Exposing how Commissioner Park was greedy and killed Lady Yeon’s diabetic father through a sweet snack called Yakgwa, Han-soo wins the trial with Park’s arrest. Supposed to meet him at night, Han-soo sees the commissioner hanged, staged like a suicide.
Joseon Attorney Episodes 3 and 4 Musings
Not all attorneys begin with pure intentions, but that doesn’t mean there’s no humanity left inside them. Taking Han-soo as an example, he is a clever man who sometimes uses unconventional methods to win a case. Even though his view on law is not as romantic as Yeon-joo, they both help the one who’s wronged.
Keeping the right balance of seriousness and lightheartedness, subtle romance hints come unto Han-soo and Dong-chi while chasing their target. Having Yeon-joo save Han-soo in the sea, their partnership’s foundation is gradually being built.
Yeon-joo may be late in understanding how twisted the world is that Han-soo had to resort to wicked methods. Due process is indeed important, but it’s also important to recognize how unlevel people’s starting points are in life.
What Han-soo said about the existence of a bad wife but not a bad husband captures how unjust the system of marriage is in the olden times. There’s nothing wrong in seeing the world systems as flawed, for through this, better solutions are formed.
So far, the direction of Han-soo’s revenge clearly shows the perpetrators from bottom to top. Also, a portion of the truth about Yeon-joo’s father is shown, and Magistrate Yoo’s anonymous donations imply a possible secret from the past.
