The First Responders Episode 2 Highlights
Barely entering his “haunted” new apartment; Ho-gae joins Do-jin and Seol in a joint operation for a supposed teenage suicide. The victim involves Kim Hyun-seo, a high schooler, who unfortunately ingested paraquat.
Unfortunately, she didn’t make it due to multiple organ failures caused by the deadly herbicide she took in. Seol’s oxygen administration when Hyun-seo complained of breathing difficulty also aggravated the situation.
Hyun-seo’s Ordeal
Living as a school outcast and always pressured by her mother, Hyun-seo succumbs to a scam presented to her owing to her attention need. Her classmate, the class president Yang Jun-tae, offers her to play a gambling game and even lent her money.
Jun-tae coerces her to pay back by using her mother’s bank account. He even commits sexual harassment by taking Hyun-seo’s pictures that he warns of being sent to her mother. Because of that, Hyun-seo suggests drinking a drink she got from the countryside that would help her raise money.
Having second thoughts, she halts but went through when Jun-tae taunts her. Hyun-seo vomits right away as he escapes hurriedly.
Picking on the footprints at Hyun-seo’s house, Ho-gae’s crime sniffing led to discovering Hyun-seo’s social media account and meeting her birth father who mentioned his daughter asked for a big amount of money which she needs because Jun-tae’s threat.
Feeling unbothered that the law will protect him because he’s still a minor, Ho-gae shuts his remorseless arrogance by lying that the preparations for his long list of crimes will be submitted past his birthday which would make him accountable for all the crimes he committed.
The First Responders Episode 2 Musings
Keeping a neat and engrossing vibe, The First Responders draws another interesting case. Tackling juvenile crime, hopefully, would remind adults caring for their younglings to be wary of red flags.
Disappointingly, the case highlighted is a possible reality that has already manifested in the same disheartening situation and in different stories. Regardless of whether the underage is a perpetrator or a victim; both suffer despondently.
Bullying is a perennial subject often featured in K-Dramas because of its prevalence. Moreover, it is a known concern for youth not just in Korea but globally.
Correspondingly, the gaps in guidance and connection of parents to their children are also underlined in this episode. Evidently, Hyun-seo does not have a healthy relationship with her mom who obviously failed to notice the inner turmoil of her daughter.
Being a single parent, she probably has her reasons. But for parents, this is a perfect example of why fostering a thriving interaction with children is necessary.
Fragments of the villain which Ho-gae previously encountered were unveiled suggesting trouble being brewed for the unrelenting detective. Possibly, it will link to Ho-gae’s past with a girl also named Hyun-seo as seen in this episode.
Now, that he has entered the apartment he leased which is rumored to be haunted, he’s probably up to crack another exciting case.
Be enthralled at how the police and firefighter cooperate to save lives in dire situations in The First Responders on SBS every Saturday. International fans can watch it on Disney+!
