The Law Cafe Episode 8 Highlights

“I need to tell her before it’s too late.”

Sharing a passionate kiss, Jung-ho suddenly discontinues it as he admits he wishes to confess his feelings after having several dates together first.

He meets with his colleague from the prosecution whom he hands the flash drive containing the information about the connection of Dohan Construction with the prosecution. As this potentially attacks his family, especially his father, Jung-ho assures his colleague he can manage. As a warning of the impending situation, he also visits his mother who still deeply trusts Jung-ho’s father.

Joon slips out to Jung-ho that Woo-jin and the rest of the employees of the law cafe will go to Jungpyeong island.

Aware of that, Jung-ho arrives earlier at the group’s accommodation, which surprises Yu-ri. Talking about their kiss that suddenly ended, Jung-ho calls it a mistake and asks Yu-ri why she easily confesses and walks out.

Beginning their free medical and legal service, long lines wait for the medical service, but none for the legal that is perceived to serve bitter coffee.

“But no matter how much you cover things up, things can’t be hidden forever.”

Stepping up their offered services, Jung-ho plays traditional games while giving legal advice and Yu-ri offers a non-bitter type of coffee.

Two old friends that have a dispute on their shared pathway to their house’s entrance consult separately with Yu-ri and Jung-ho.

Wol-seon has no convenient passageway to the entrance of her house, so Jung-ho advises her that Mak-rye blocking her only road access to public traffic is illegal. However, he forewarns her that Mak-rye could collect tolls from her to pass on it.

Yu-ri hears Mak-rye’s reason for blocking the road and empathizes with how their friendship changed after Wol-seon stopped her from coming to her house as if she was hiding something and denied her from using the nearby road to the hill.

Jung-ho accompanies Yu-ri, and on their way back they hear a crying sound from afar. Following that sound, they step on private land protected by Wol-seon’s defensive son.

Many spectate Yu-ri and Jung-ho’s discussion of the road issue of the two women, and Yu-ri expresses her intention of not making the problem into a legal issue.

“If you’re upset about something, you should talk it out.”

Mak-rye adds to her complaints on Wol-seon is her selfishness with the Mugwort rice cakes she eats alone. In addition to that, she feels frustrated with her longtime friend who keeps everything to herself.

Representing their clients, Jung-ho and Yu-ri’s exchanges turn into something personal, and the issue meets its resolution even before their discussion ends.

The legal team of President Lee prepares for the incoming attack from the prosecution that Jung-ho handed. President Lee gets scolded and is put into his place by his father as if being treated like a dog.

Over dinner, Wol-seon invites the two lawyers, and Yu-ri sneakily tries the Mugwort rice cakes. Jung-ho tells Yu-ri he wants to walk with her after, and she thanks him for his mustered courage.

Serious to tell his honest feelings, Jung-ho notices that Yu-ri is strangely active and euphoric.

“We don’t have as much time as we think we do. We keep things bottled up, thinking we’d get a chance to day it later on. But life waits for no one.”

Worried for Yu-ri, Jung-ho asks Wol-seon what’s in the rice cakes she secretly eats. She then admits the rice cake has Cannabis as she claims it suddenly grew. Keeping it secretly, she takes it since it relieves her pain.

About to bring Yu-ri to the hospital, Wol-seon’s son blocks the road with a truck, but Mak-rye brings the bulldozer.

At the police station, Jung-ho assures Wol-seon she will be okay since she is a first-time offender, but not her son. Protective of her friend, Mak-rye makes sure her friend is in the best comfort inside the cell.

Though ordered by his father to handle the impending trouble, President Lee comes to inform him that he did not do so since it is a hassle.

Waking up confused about what happened the recent night, Yu-ri watches the news of the involvement of Jung-ho’s father with Dohan Construction and the warehouse fire that killed her father.

Jung-ho feels frustrated to hear that there was a tip-off, and he stops Yu-ri from leaving. Although Yu-ri says she’s beginning to hate him, Jung-ho accepts it and walks toward her, sure of his feelings.

The Law Cafe Episode 8 Musings

While the romance of Jung-ho and Yu-ri has seen much progress, the side stories and cases they’re handling have been also more interesting and relevant.

A lot of simple matters have the potential to turn into big issues when not resolved in the early stages. In the process of handling a road issue, the case has a unique pinch as it includes the problem of farming and growing cannabis accidentally.

Figuring out what runs in President Lee’s mind can be confusing since he is a foolish and giddy person. His intentions seem to be ill, and his leadership exudes incompetence. But, in the back of all those greed and wickedness, he looks like a child seeking validation from his father.

Words matter a lot, and, indeed, people do not have all the time in the world to delay their honest feelings. Be it in friendship, father and son relationships, or potential lovers, communication nurtures healthy relationships.

Yu-ri who was sure of her feelings now bolts back after knowing the truth about Jung-ho’s family. She has waited to hear Jung-ho’s honest feelings, and now her reaction to it changes for the next episodes.
