The Law Cafe Episode 15 Highlights
“Marriage does not equal happiness.”
Yu-ri rejects Jung-ho’s proposal challenging the idea of marriage while stating that she’s not ready to join his family.
Lee Pyun-woong blames his father for the events of his life, and the two get physical. Chairman Lee gets rushed to the hospital while Lee Pyun-woong flees.
Hearing the story, Se-yeon agrees that Jung-ho’s proposal is too sudden and that marriage is complicated. On the other hand, Jin-gi tells Jung-ho he should have thought his proposal and the idea of marriage over.
Mr. Hwang comes running into the law cafe upon hearing that Lee Pyun-woong is not yet caught by the police, but Yu-ri remains relaxed trusting the police.
Frustrated with what happened, Chairman Lee throws objects at Jung-ho’s father and pressures him to catch Lee Pyun-woong.
Acting like a gigolo, Jung-ho learns that his uncle is still inside the country, so he orders the search for him in all residences of Dohan construction.
“You promised to love each other forever, but when things get a little tough, you say you’ll let him go because you care about him.”
Together with her child and their bags, Se-yeon goes to the law cafe telling Yu-ri she’s divorcing Jin-gi.
Explaining the start of her marriage problem, Se-yeon remembers being belittled for having no mother and accused of cutting her husband’s wings to have him sit at home.
Arguing, Se-yeon gets frustrated when Jin-gi does not respond when she asked if he regretted marrying her.
Yu-ri lets Se-yeon and Yoon-a stay at her house, and persuades her not to divorce just yet. Taking care of the baby in the cafe, Yeon-ju comes to the rescue when Yu-ri doesn’t know that Yoon-a keeps crying because she needs a diaper change.
Stating her real reason for being in the cafe, Yeon-ju requests Yu-ri to handle her divorce case. However, Yu-ri imagines herself being water splashed by Jung-ho’s mom.
Drinking together with the neighborhood ladies, Yeon-ju voices her frustration with her husband who does not respond to her. She recalls how she found refuge from him who looks rigid but sticks to his beliefs and principles.
Already drunk, Yu-ri ignores the ladies’ nudges to stop and calls Yeon-ju a hypocrite for bringing up divorce. Yeon-ju then pulls Yu-ri’s hair, and feels betrayed as Jung-ho sides with Yu-ri.
“Don’t you think it’s better to just not make any promises instead of breaking promises and disappointing each other?”
Remembering her father’s promise to perform a breakdance on her wedding day, Yu-ri tells Jung-ho she cannot see herself lying as accustomed to marriage ceremonies.
Jung-ho agrees his proposal was too sudden and respects Yu-ri’s decision. He then vows not to make promises he can’t keep.
Guilty about what she said to Yeon-ju, Jung-ho assures Yu-ri that his mom forgets things when drunk. Yeon-ju stops Yu-ri from apologizing, and admits she’s shameless for thinking of divorce at that point in her marriage.
Tracing the possible location of Lee Pyun-woong, Jung-ho hears from Assemblyman Choi about Yushin’s youngest son who was caught in drugs. Following the address given, Jung-ho and Mr. Gil arrive too late.
Yu-ri receives a call from her mom, but Lee Pyun-woong speaks on the phone telling the story of his mother who was an actress that was refused to be acknowledged by Chairman Lee after being impregnated by him. Despite hearing that, Yu-ri refuses to empathize with him.
“The law? Yes, it’s messed up. I know that. But do you know what happens when those collapses? Buildings will crumble down, and ships will sink. And kids like your daughter will fall ill.”
Promising to keep Yu-ri and her mom safe, Jung-ho receives a call from an unknown number. His uncle asks him to come alone if he wants Yu-ri’s mom safe, so he complies and lets himself beaten up.
Using the tracker Jung-ho gave, Yu-ri’s mom presses the button and activates its GPS feature. Se-yeon and the police find the tracker, but not Yu-ri’s mother.
Left alone to watch over Jung-ho as his master washes his hands, Lee Pyun-woong’s assistant spills the location of Yu-ri’s mom after being convinced by Jung-ho to step down in helping scumbags who made his daughter ill as read in the ruling against a toy manufacturer.
In the address given, Joon finds Yu-ri’s mother freezing after hearing a banging sound from one of the containers in the port’s distribution center.
Yu-ri agrees to be Lee Pyun-woong’s lawyer after Jung-ho becomes a hostage of his uncle. As his lawyer, she promises he won’t suffer alone unjustly.
Jung-ho tries to grab the knife, but gets stabbed. Lee Pyun-woon attempts to die in front of everyone, but with his remaining strength, Jung-ho grabs the knife, and the police aid in catching Lee Pyun-woong.
The Law Cafe Episode 15 Musings
While a sad story does not justify one’s crimes, it’s pretty unfair how Lee Pyun-woong, whose own father maltreated him even before birth, is despised and dumped as the sole villain. His father, Chairman Lee, could have had a share of the hate his son receives.
His mother’s story is unfortunate to hear, and that just proves how Chairman Lee should also take responsibility for that part. Moreover, the way the chairman treats Jung-ho’s father is just upsetting.
Exemplified by those events, Yeon-ju’s decision to divorce her husband is understandable. However, marriage as emphasized in this episode is complicated. It takes a lot of commitment and dedication for it to stand strong amidst adversities.
To make matters light, the drama includes a satirical imagination of a mother-in-law who opposes her son’s marriage. Nonetheless, the message about considering a lifelong commitment is clearly delivered.
By the end of this episode, the fighting scene could have been improved. It’s frustrating to watch the crowd of police and even the SWAT witness a hostage being stabbed. Lee Pyun-woong has now been captured, and the verdict for his crimes can be anticipated in the finale.
