The Golden Spoon Episode 4 Highlights
Receiving a cryptic message that someone knows he is not the real Tae-yong, Seung-cheon faces another hurdle in his newly acquired life.
Starting to suspect everyone around him, Seung-cheon is not going anywhere with his deductions.
He even resorts to checking Ju-hee’s phone since when he rang the number of the cryptic message before the class started, her phone rang at the same time.
Disclosing her woes about the prank text could be because of his rich status, Ju-hee bought his excuse.
When Ju-hee was summoned by the police about the recent scare Na-ra’s father gave, she called Tae-yong to join her. He also learns that Na-ra used to live in the basement of Yeo-jin’s house.
“What if Oh Yeo-jin is actually Jung Na-ra?”
Seung-cheon thinks of the possibility that Na-ra switched to Yeo-jin like him through the golden spoon.
He asks Yeo-jin to meet at the columbarium where Na-ra’s ashes were kept. Yeo-jin shares how she pitied Na-ra for having a sorry life growing up without a mother and an abusive father.
The situation turns more mysterious when his classmates also received the same text message. After confirming with Yeo-jin if she is really true, he learned that she also got the same text message.
Back at school, Jang-gun claimed he sent the prank messages. Tae-yong who is eating ice cream asks them to be quiet. Noticing he’s not using his golden spoon, Tae-yong remembers Seung-cheon’s memory like his own.
“I don’t want my son to be ashamed of me. So, I’m going to earn money.”
While driving, Seung-cheon sees his father who is working part-time as a crowd subduer. When he sees him being treated badly by the business owner, he meddles.
His father relays wanting to earn money for his family which infuriated him since it was way too late for him to do so. Surprised at his behavior, his father pleads not to tell his friend about the encounter.
His day gets better when Ju-hee invites him for dinner to celebrate her first paycheck. At that same moment, Tae-yong visits Hwang’s mansion and obliges to his stepmom’s request to play the piano. Opting to wait inside his friend’s room, he checks on the drawers to confirm a secret compartment and finds the golden spoon.
Rushing to check Tae-yong in his room, Seung-cheon’s heart skipped a beat when he sees him holding the golden spoon. He claims it back and when he sees the medicine Tae-yong religiously takes he gives it to him.
On his way out, Tae-yong sees his father and gets a panic attack. Fortunately, Seung-cheon’s father arrives to help him calm down.
“I love my parents more than anything this world. I would never trade my parents. Instead of living with suffocating parents, I’d rather be poor.”
Tae-yong’s stepmom’s younger brother arrives from the United States. In front of CEO Hwang, he is polite, but when alone with Seung-cheon, he seems to have caused Tae-yong’s deep-seated trauma.
Meanwhile, through butler hyung Mun-gi, Seung-cheon moves to bring his family there.
When Tae-yong’s scary uncle strangled Seung-cheon, he runs and finds himself staring at his old happy family munching on boxes of fried chicken.
The next day, Tae-yong calls Seung-cheon and questions the apartment he offered. He deems it’s because of Ju-hee. Exchanging words about the bitter reality of having poor parents; Seung-cheon gives Tae-yong a reality check on what the power of money is.
Tae-yong strongly makes a stand that he would never trade his poor parents. Just then, Ju-hee arrives to deliver news that Seung-cheon’s father was rushed to the ER.
Worried about the news, Seung-cheon joins Ju-hee and Tae-yong and hurriedly looks for his father. Calling his unconscious father, the divider cloth opens and his gaze meets CEO Hwang.
The Golden Spoon Episode 4 Musings
Episode 6 of The Golden Spoon reveals other fate-shifters. It also gives a lesson on how fortune and power when given to people with ill intentions can be dangerous.
Seung-cheon who is innately kind still thinks of ways to return the fate he stole from Tae-yong. He also wants to help his poor family with his newly-acquired fate.
That’s not the case for Na-ra who altered her fate to become Yeo-jin. She never looked back after the switch without regret.
Tae-yong’s trauma springs from an event five years ago in the US. It led to his panic attacks being augmented and the evil uncle appears to be a great contributor.
Fortunately, Seung-cheon is much more courageous than Tae-yong, so hopefully, he can put Tae-yong’s stepmom’s brother in the right place.
So far, the writing is really commendable in this series as it focuses on the rules governing the fate-shifters as well as the neat presentation of the thrilling repercussion of Seung-cheon’s choice.
He is in a dilemma of keeping the life he so wanted while feeling the love for his family that he just can’t ignore. Seen from afar, the switched lives of Seung-cheon and Tae-yong posit the idea of how we steer our life based on our decisions.
It could be utterly hopeless or favorably hopeful depending on our diligence and discipline. Surely, there are variables and advantages to economic status. But there are lingering pains and sacrifices attached to people with power and wealth that equate to their privilege.
What will be Seung-cheon’s alibi for what CEO Hwang just heard at the hospital’s emergency room? Will Yeo-jin cause trouble with her discovery of a fellow fate-shifter?
