UNESCO World Heritage Site Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon Gyeonggi-do province brings not one but four festivals this fall.
The month-long celebration started on September 23 and will run until October 23.
It follows the theme ” Healing & Falling Suwon Hwaseong”. The four festivals are Suwon Hwaseong Media Art Show, 2022 World Heritage Festival Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, 59th Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, and the reenactment of King Jeongjo’s royal parade.
Correspondingly, the festivals highlight the historical and cultural heritage of Suwon and honor the legacy of King Jeongjo and the ideal world he dreamed of through media art shows, traditional performing arts, and interactive and online programs.
Mix Historical Site Visit and K-Drama Neighborhood Filming Location When You Go To Suwon
According to Visit Korea, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, constructed from 1794 to 1796, was built by King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty to house and honor the remains of his father Prince Sado, who had been executed by being locked alive inside a rice chest by his own father King Yeongjo after failing to obey the command to commit suicide. Hence it is also called the walled city of filial love.
It also demonstrates King Jeongjo’s goal to establish a new pioneer city with its own economic power.
Twenty Five Twenty One, Itaewon Class, The Golden Spoon, and Love in the Moonlight are some of fan-favorite K-Dramas filmed at this fortress.
If interested to attend the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress festivals, more details can be found on Suwon Cultural Foundation website.
