No Tail To Tell Episodes 5 and 6 Highlights

“I am not a nine-tailed fox anymore. I am just human.”

Eun-ho brushes off that weird vision as a dream since she already lost her spiritual powers, including seeing the future. Still, she feels quite nervous around Si-yeol, though he is only kind to her, peeling her fruit, applying medicine to her sore feet, and covering her with his jacket when Eun-ho gets cold.

The next day, our leads continue their gumiho hunting mission. They plan to get stranded and wait for her to come to rescue them. But getting stranded proves more dangerous than expected, and Si-yeol ends up spraining his ankle. They can’t even call for help as his mobile battery is dead. Just then, the gumiho shows up. Shockingly, she is the spitting image of Eun-ho’s old friend, Geum-ho. Eun-ho is teary-eyed over the strong resemblance, while the gumiho doesn’t seem to recognize her or remember anything about their friendship.

“It is you. The one I have been waiting for.”

Mad about getting played, Eun-ho storms off. And Si-yeol goes searching for her after the gumiho helps heal his ankle. They find Eun-ho and retreat to the cave where the gumiho lives. She is kind-hearted enough to agree to grant Si-yeol’s wish to retrieve his old life. But the thing is: this fox only has eight tails, and her spiritual power isn’t enough to pull off the reversal. Hearing Eun-ho is a nine-tailed fox turned human, the eight-tailed fox asks her for help on how to become a human. But Eun-ho turns her down staunchly and spews mean words at her.

A few setbacks later, our leads return to Seoul, where they come face-to-face with Woo-seok. He got uneasy after almost losing his dream life. So he rushed over to ask Si-yeol for one week before switching back, still oblivious to Eun-ho’s plight.

Just then, the eight-tailed fox arrives, claiming she has found a way for Eun-ho to become a nine-tailed fox again. This is good news for Eun-ho. But Woo-seok catches on that she is now powerless, and he has nothing to worry about anymore. Eun-ho can tell he is thrilled, yet naïve Si-yeol still trusts him.

“You can become a nine-tailed fox instead of me and I can become human faster.”

As a temporary fix, Eun-ho has the eight-tailed fox erase Woo-seok’s memory of meeting them. Though it might take some time, his memory will return. So, they need to act fast and return things to normal before then.

Eight-tailed Fox plans to grow another tail and become a gumiho, and then switch fates with Eun-ho. That way, Eun-ho will regain her power and help Si-yeol with the switchback. And the eight-tailed fox will become a human as she wishes. A win-win situation, right?

Eight-tailed Fox and Si-yeol are on board, yet Eun-ho is firmly against the idea. Having watched her old friend’s life get ruined after turning into a human, Eun-ho is concerned about how the Eight-tailed Fox will survive in the human world. So, she tries to push her to stay as a fox. But like Si-yeol counters, it is the eight-tailed fox’s call to make.

Heading to an amusement park as Eight-tailed Fox wishes, Eun-ho is funnily scared and gets sick from the rides. But she also has a lot of fun. And a mutual attraction is developing between our leads. As a last-ditch effort, Eun-ho relays her friend’s tragic story to the eight-tailed fox, hoping to change her mind. However, the latter argues she wants a memorable life rather than one she can control. So, Eun-ho gives in and agrees to the fate switch.

“You want us to be the bad guys, not the good guys!”

Since they are in a rush, Eight-tailed Fox hands over her fox bead to Eun-ho so she can build spiritual power in her stead. In other words, Eun-ho will do good deeds, but the one gaining spiritual power will be the Eight-tailed Fox. And Eun-ho won’t get to use this power. The thing is, Eun-ho comes up with absurd ideas that don’t count as good deeds but are crimes. For instance, she wants Si-yeol to set a building on fire so she can swoop in and save the people inside. Yet Si-yeol refuses to take part in that ludicrous plan.

Speaking of which, a fire breaks out in a nearby childcare center. And hearing that there are children trapped inside, Si-yeol volunteers to rescue them. He tells Eun-ho to wait for him outside, but she follows him inside.

After getting the children to safety, Si-yeol realizes Eun-ho is stuck in the fire. So, he goes back to save her. Yet, unluckily, a heavy object falls on them before they can make it out. Si-yeol shields Eun-ho with his body. And next we see her, she is in the hospital, and Si-yeol is nowhere to be found. Calling out for him frantically, Eun-ho is relieved to see Si-yeol alive, and tears flow down her face. She falls into his arms, and he hugs her back.

No Tail To Tell Episodes 5 and 6 Musings

At this point, we don’t care much if Eun-ho returns to being a gumiho or stays as a human as long as there is a way for our leads to have a happy ending. However, the same can’t be said about the switch between Si-yeol and Woo-seok. We are okay with Si-yeol living a quieter life, unlike the stressful life he has been leading so far. However, he should reclaim his old life first. Woo-seok has proven himself to be a greedy person and a terrible friend. So, we hope he faces the consequences for his actions.
