No Tail To Tell Episodes 3 and 4 Highlights

“You summoned me sooner than I expected, Si-yeol.”

That night, Woo-seok turned down Si-yeol’s suggestion to make a wish, arguing he would figure out his life himself. Rather than rely on Si-yeol’s help or ask him for favors, Woo-seok wants to stay friends with Si-yeol for who they are, regardless of Si-yeol’s current status. We also learn Woo-seok has been taking care of Si-yeol’s late grandmother while he was abroad, and visits her grave every year on her anniversary.

Instead, it is Si-yeol who summons Eun-ho for a wish after getting into trouble with his club. Charging him a hefty sum of money, Eun-ho helps Si-yeol transfer to his preferred club, and all is well for him again.

Fascinated, Woo-seok decides to give it a go and makes a wish too. He doesn’t want to quit football but to play professionally. Yet Woo-seok isn’t eligible to be Eun-ho’s client as he is broke. So, Si-yeol offers to pay for him, acting cocky and provoking Eun-ho. She agrees to grant the wish but emphasizes that how she does it is totally up to her. Starting from the car accident nine years ago, Si-yeol and Woo-seok’s fates are swapped, and Eun-ho is delighted to watch Si-yeol feel perplexed.

“Starting now, I am going on a fox hunt.”

While Si-yeol takes in his new reality, Eun-ho faces a major risk. A significant dagger that could eliminate her has vanished. The mastermind behind that scheme is Jang Doo-chul (Kim Tae-woo), a shaman who is after Eun-ho’s fox bead. And to achieve his goal, Doo-chul recruits the hit-and-run driver, Lee Yoon (Choi Seung-yoon).

Running into Si-yeol, Eun-ho gleefully explains the switch to him, and he asks her to return things to normal. But the only way to do this is for Woo-seok to make a wish the way Si-yeol did for him. And by the looks of it, Woo-seok won’t let go of his dream life that easily. Eun-ho hates it when humans get cocky, so she wanted to teach Si-yeol a lesson. But things got messy as Si-yeol’s fate now depends on Woo-seok’s decision.

“Do we really have to switch back right now?”

Getting greedy, Woo-seok asks for a month before giving back Si-yeol’s life. And the latter is screwed. Now that Si-yeol has learned his lesson, Eun-ho agrees to reverse the switch, claiming things will return to normal the next morning. But not before gloating for a bit and rubbing it in Si-yeol’s face. Just then, Si-yeol gets kidnapped by Doo-chul, who plans to use him to lure Eun-ho out. At first, Si-yeol assumes it is for a wish. Yet hearing that Doo-chul wants to kill Eun-ho, Si-yeol refuses to help him.

Sensing something is off, Eun-ho heads to where Si-yeol is. He is lying down after getting hit on the head. And after dealing with the evil duo, we circle back to the opening sequence where Eun-ho stands before a dying Si-yeol. (That was fast.) But instead of leaving him to die, Eun-ho uses her powers to save Si-yeol, arguing it will be a hassle if he dies before returning to his original life.

“Are you saying I have to keep living like this?”

Saving Si-yeol counts for doing a good deed, though. Which means the balance is no longer aligned. Experiencing severe pain, Eun-ho’s fox bead falls to pieces, and she passes out.

Opening her eyes, Eun-ho is at Si-yeol’s place. The switch hasn’t been reversed. Si-yeol is still poor. And Eun-ho has lost her spiritual powers and become human. In other words, Eun-ho’s worst nightmare has come true. And Si-yeol will remain stuck like that unless Eun-ho retrieves her power.

Heading to a temple to meet her guardian, Eun-ho attempts to burn down the place after learning he has already left. She gets locked up, but that isn’t the worst that could happen. In the hassle of carrying Eun-ho to his place, Si-yeol left the dagger behind. And when he goes back to search for it, the dagger is gone.

Hearing there is another nine-tailed fox, our leads head to the mountain where this gumiho supposedly lives. But they can’t reach her, and Eun-ho ends up exhausted. She hilariously laments how weak her human body is and can’t even eat by herself because of fatigue.

As Eun-ho dozes off, Si-yeol looks at her, smitten. Then, she suddenly opens her eyes, looking shocked. Eun-ho’s latest vision features Si-yeol stabbing her with the dagger. Is this another inevitable tragedy? Or can this vision be changed?

No Tail To Tell Episodes 3 and 4 Musings

Our leads are now in the same boat, both facing a new reality different from their comfort zone and having to rely on each other to weather this storm. There is no telling if they can return to their old lives. But their journey is amusing, especially the part about Eun-ho adapting to human life. The chemistry between Kim Hye-yoon and Park Solomon shines brightly this week, and we can see how they will get attracted to each other and fall in love along the way.

We will refrain from commenting on the vision until more details are revealed. But we doubt Si-yeol will knowingly stab Eun-ho. Probably, there is more to this prophecy than meets the eye, and we can’t wait to get all the details.

Lastly, we appreciate how this week highlighted the difference between Si-yeol and Woo-seok. Si-yeol was kind enough to pay for Woo-seok’s wish. But Woo-seok, despite knowing it isn’t his life, brazenly asks Si-yeol to wait for a month. He is still in the dark, but Woo-seok will surely feel relieved that Eun-ho lost her powers and wouldn’t be able to reverse the switch.

Another difference is the boys’ reaction to the accident. Woo-seok wallowed in self-pity and was cut from the team. But Si-yeol kept playing and had teammates follow him and stand up for him. Which speaks volumes about Si-yeol’s perseverance and Woo-seok’s weak mentality, stealing someone else’s life and indulging in it shamelessly instead of sorting out his life.
