tvN’s upcoming weekend drama Typhoon Family follows the bumpy yet spirited journey of Kang Tae-poong, a rookie businessman who suddenly finds himself president of a trading company in the middle of the 1997 IMF financial storm—with no staff, no money, and nothing to sell.
But before Tae-poong was swept into the crisis, he had his crew—the so-called “Abstreet Boys” of Apgujeong-dong, the local answer to the Backstreet Boys who were ruling the Billboard charts at the time.
At the heart of the squad is Tae-poong himself, the group’s self-proclaimed face of style, leaving a trail of broken hearts wherever he struts. His best friend Wang Nam-mo (Kim Min Seok) claims he’s the real visual, and their playful rivalry becomes a comic highlight. Nam-mo may look carefree and incapable of a fight, but when it comes to loyalty and love, he’s all in. Rounding out the Abstreet Boys are Yoon-seong (Yang Byeong Yeol), Dae-hyeop (Kim Young Jae), and Jeong-gwan (Park Sung Hyun), each adding their own spark to the brotherhood.
New stills capture the electric vibe of the Apgujeong streets, with Tae-poong’s cool charisma and Nam-mo’s quick wit during a street interview, teasing the mix of humor, warmth, and youthful nostalgia the drama promises.
The production team teased, “Through Kang Tae-poong and Wang Nam-mo, viewers will feel the free-spiritedness and fierce loyalty of youth in 1997. Their blend of laughter and sincerity will bring both healing and joy to audiences.”
Featuring a blend of heart, humor, and survival spirit, Typhoon Family is set to be both a nostalgic ride and a source of comfort for anyone facing tough times today. Catch its premiere on Saturday, October 11 at 9:10 PM, following the hit series Bon Appétit, Your Majesty.
