Brace yourself for a ruthless descent into a hidden world of betrayal, survival, and payback.
The Defects, an 8-episode action thriller based on the smash-hit webtoon I-Shopping (over 51 million views and the recipient of the SPP Best Creativity Award), explodes onto the screen with a tightly wound story of systemic corruption, lost childhoods, and the rage of those society tried to erase.
Leading the ensemble is the ever-commanding Yum Jung-ah (SKY Castle, Snowdrop), who ditches any trace of warmth to embody Kim Se-hee—a hospital chairwoman with the mask of philanthropy and the mind of a tyrant. On the surface, she’s a revered figure running a charitable medical foundation. Beneath that surface? She orchestrates a chilling underground adoption ring built on the belief that only children with “superior genes” deserve to live.
Enter Won Jin-ah (Hellbound, She Would Never Know) in a transformative role as Kim Ah-hyun—a rejected adoptee who survives the cruelty of the system that spit her out. Hardened by trauma but burning with purpose, Ah-hyun unites with others like her—the so-called “defects”—to exact revenge on the elites who trafficked lives like commodities. This marks a bold new chapter for Won Jin-ah, who sheds melodrama for blood-pumping action, emotional grit, and fierce agency.
Supporting them is Choi Young-joon (Vincenzo, Bloodhounds) as Woo Tae-sik, a guilt-ridden insider walking the razor’s edge between complicity and redemption. Dex Kim Jin-young (Single’s Inferno, Tarot) delivers intensity and precision as Jung Hyun, a lethal human weapon trained to obey—and slowly learning to question. Rounding out the cast is Lee Na-eun (Extraordinary You, Flex X Cop) in a yet-undisclosed role sure to add emotional weight and narrative tension.
The Defects is a revenge saga for the voiceless—a harrowing, high-stakes confrontation between the powerful and those they deemed disposable. With fast-paced storytelling, relentless action, and a scathing critique of systems that prize image over humanity, this drama doesn’t just entertain—it provokes.
Prepare for a dark, unflinching ride filled with shocking twists, high-stakes confrontations, and a brutal reckoning that’s been long overdue. The Defects isn’t just a drama—it’s a warning shot.
The Defects premieres July 21 | Mondays & Tuesdays, 10.30 pm (GMT+8) on K-PLUS with encore airing on Saturdays and Sundays, 9.15 pm (GMT+8).
