Park Jihoon, Yoon Kyung Ho, Han Dong Hee, and Lee Hong Nae Join Forces in Military Comedy-Drama

A deliciously fresh take on military life is coming to screens! TVING’s upcoming original series Becoming a Cooking Legend has officially confirmed the casting of Park Jihoon, Yoon Kyung Ho, Han Dong Hee, and Lee Hong Nae.

Based on the hit Naver webtoon Becoming a Cooking Soldier Legend by Jay Robin and Jinsu Lee, the drama tells the hilarious and heartwarming story of a young army cook who trades bullets for boiling pots and guns for kitchen knives, embarking on a high-stakes culinary quest in the middle of military service.

Penned by Choi Ryong, a former military cook himself, and directed by Jo Nam-hyung, this military comedy promises a charming mix of absurdity, emotion, and savory food-filled action. Produced by Studio Dragon and Studio N, the drama is expected to stir up both laughter and nostalgia when it launches on TVING in 2026.

Meet the Cast & Characters

Park Jihoon takes the lead as Private Kang Sung-jae, a former top trainee newly assigned to Gangrim Outpost. What begins as a typical military assignment takes an unexpected turn when Kang Sung-jae hears a mysterious voice that leads him to accept a quest—one that may turn him into a legendary cook in the army mess hall. Audiences can expect Park Ji-hoon to blend comedy, growth, and heart as his character levels up, RPG-style, through military kitchen chaos.

Yoon Kyung Ho transforms into Sergeant Park Jae-young, the 4th Platoon’s rough-around-the-edges supply officer. Known for his thick dialect and reputation as a walking “time bomb,” Park Jae-young has never managed a promotion and is constantly caught up in accidents, now with the added headache of a rookie cook under his wing. Yoon’s sharp comic timing and grounded performance are expected to add layers to this unpredictable sergeant.

Han Dong Hee stars as Lieutenant Jo Ye-rin, the no-nonsense, sharp-tongued commander of Gangrim Outpost. A proud graduate of the Korea Military Academy’s women’s corps, she was once seen as a rising elite, but now finds herself posted to a sleepy outpost—until Kang Sung-jae arrives and turns things upside down. Charismatic and assertive, Jo Ye-rin is poised to become the “girl crush” icon of the series.

Lee Hong Nae plays Sergeant Yoon Dong-hyun, a senior cook with 100 days left until discharge—and zero passion for food. Dubbed the worst foodie in the platoon, he’s been phoning it in at the mess hall, turning meals into misery. But the arrival of an enthusiastic new recruit threatens to shake up his countdown to freedom. Lee is expected to deliver both laughs and character depth in this reluctant mentor role.

Featuring quirky characters, laugh-out-loud military moments, and plenty of delicious drama over steaming bowls of jjambbap, Becoming a Cooking Legend is gearing up to bring something new to K-drama fans. More than just a kitchen comedy, it’s a celebration of resilience, camaraderie, and the unsung heroes who keep an army fueled.
