Our Movie Episodes 7 and 8 Highlights

“Something is stirring within me but I don’t know if I can call that love.”

Answering Seo-young’s question, Da-eum admits she is dying. But instead of further pushing Da-eum, Seo-young plays it off as a rehearsal, though she suspects Da-eum is ill. Simultaneously, Je-ha dodges Seung-won’s question, asserting he hates scandals and doesn’t want to get involved in any.

Je-ha is more confused about his feelings than denying them, even questioning if he deserves to be in love. But the addition of Mr. First Love to the story, who is still interested in Da-eum, might be the nudge he needs to realize his feelings and act on them, especially since he can’t help getting jealous whenever he spots the two together.

Suggesting they watch a film together, Da-eum wonders how their movie will turn out. Will it result in another slump for Je-ha or will they travel around attending festivals and bagging trophies? There is no way to predict that. So, Je-ha suggests they find out together.

Parting ways with Da-eum, Je-ha meets the lead actress from the original Love in White, asking why his father claimed he wrote the script, though it was his mother. We don’t hear the rest of the conversation. But hopefully, Je-ha can break free from his trauma and be happy.

“How could you even think to fall in love when you are dying?”

It is the first day of shooting, and everyone in the crew is working hard. Not even Je-ha can hide his nervousness. Da-eum is both enthusiastic and nervous. Yet with some help from Je-ha, she nails her scene and earns a compliment from him. The first day goes smoothly. But things turn tense after Seo-young arrives later that night. She is done playing nice and pushes Da-eum into revealing she is terminally ill.

In the aftermath, Da-eum is shaken up, apologizing to Je-ha for breaking their promise. Seo-young acts haughty, calling Je-ha out for casting Da-eum despite knowing she might die soon. To protect Da-eum, Je-ha claims he got sick and tired of his slump, so he cast Da-eum since she would make up for what he lacked and make the movie a success. Yet, Seo-young can see through his lies, confirming he has feelings for Da-eum. Though she stays silent for now, Seo-young asserts she won’t stand idly by, urging Je-ha to seal a deal with her.

It is intriguing how the movie plot mirrors the drama. Sometimes the male lead switches to Je-ha, and it becomes more realistic. Unable to stay professional, Seo-young projects her emotions onto her character. She is no longer acting but using her lines to hurt Da-eum, who also breaks character and acts as herself, improvising lines that aren’t in the script. At least, both of them can see the problem. Da-eum tries to coax Seo-young into keeping her secret, but it doesn’t seem likely she will follow through.

“My eyes are always on you but yours are always on someone else.”

Taking a brief break, Da-eum and Je-ha head back to Seoul. It is Je-ha’s mother’s death anniversary and also Da-eum’s birthday. Dropping her off at the hospital for her checkup, Da-eum asks Je-ha to wait for her. They visit Je-ha’s mother’s urn together, and Je-ha gives Da-eum some flowers as a birthday gift, getting her elated.

Heading back to the filming location, Da-eum ties up the loose ends with Mr. First Love, who accepts the rejection gracefully. He knows she is in love with Je-ha. So, instead of acting clingy, he decides to move on. After that, Da-eum calls Je-ha over to see the sunset together. This time, she won’t use the movie as an excuse. She wants to see him. Rushing over there, Je-ha finally admits to his feelings. He likes Da-eum.

Our Movie Episodes 7 and 8 Musings

As delighted as we are with the ending scene, we can’t help but worry about what is yet to come. There is the nasty reporter CEO Ko hired to get intel on Da-eum. Unfortunately, he got Da-eum and Je-ha captured on his phone and sent those photos to Seung-won.

A dating scandal is the last thing our leads need at this stage. On one hand, it will obstruct the movie. And on the other hand, we are worried about getting a noble idiocy arc where Je-ha breaks up with Da-eum to protect her. If a scandal breaks out, we hope the drama uses it as a chance to give our leads character growth and enhance their bond. And please, give Seo-young something to do other than be nasty, as it is getting hard to tolerate her screen time.

On a lighter note, we are enjoying the secondary love lines developing on set, the assistant director and Da-eum’s manager, and the Director of Photography and the makeup designer. Their screen time might be limited, but they help us take a breather amidst the stressful plotlines.
