INTERVIEW: Kwak Sun Young Shares Thoughts About Her Experiences In “Crash”

In a recent interview, Kwak Sun Young, reflecting on the conclusion of the action-packed drama Crash, candidly discussed her performance and the challenges she faced.

As she revisited her action sequences on-screen, Kwak Sun Young admitted to a sense of regret, lamenting, “Watching the drama unfold, I couldn’t help but think about the opportunities I missed. I should have twisted my waist more, added more recoil to my movements, and adjusted the angle of my fist for greater impact.”

Crash, which aired its final episode on the 18th of last month, delves into the gripping narratives of the Traffic Crime Investigation Team (TCI) as they navigate high-stakes pursuits of criminals. Kwak Sun Young captivated audiences with her portrayal of Min So-hee, the determined leader renowned for her unwavering sense of justice and formidable action scenes, including intense showdowns with gangsters and imparting self-defense skills to her colleagues.

Despite accolades for her portrayal, the actress humbly expressed, “I still harbor a lingering disappointment that I couldn’t fully showcase my abilities, especially in scenes requiring precise physicality, despite being geared up for safety.

The drama’s standout moments also included exhilarating car chase sequences that showcased Min So-hee’s exceptional driving prowess. For her, who had abstained from driving for nearly a decade following a serious accident, Crash marked a significant return behind the wheel, although she opted for a stunt double for the riskier maneuvers following an on-set incident.

Reflecting on the rigorous demands of the role, she shared, “Filming ‘Crash’ served as a poignant reminder of the importance of safe driving, both on-screen and in real life.

The drama captivated audiences with its adrenaline-pumping narrative and unique focus on traffic crime investigation, contributing to its notable viewership ratings and acclaim as one of the top ENA dramas of the season.

Looking ahead, she eagerly anticipates her upcoming role as a regular on Season 5 of Europe Outside the Tent, marking her return to variety television since her debut in 2006. She expressed enthusiasm about the prospect, stating, “It’s my inaugural journey to Europe, and every aspect of it fills me with anticipation. This new opportunity represents a valuable chance for personal growth and exploration.”

Her reflections on her Crash experience and future endeavors underscore Kwak Seon-young’s commitment to expanding her repertoire and embracing new challenges within her acting career.
