The four detectives of Chief Detective 1958 embark on a grand team investigation.
Chief Detective 1958 is a prequel to Chief Inspector Park, an iconic Korean investigative drama. It is set 10 years earlier and will cover the younger days of detective Park Young-han, Korea’s representative fictional detective who received full support and love from viewers.
Moreover, it threads on how detective Park Young-han and three unique colleagues stand up to ugly crimes and become detectives for the people in the era of atrocity.
It is expected to be a dynamic story of Detective Park Young-han, who specializes in apprehending petty thieves in a barbaric era, as he teams up with colleagues to break the absurdities of corrupt power with common sense and become a detective for the people.
In an era in which crimes were solved solely with innate sense, insight, and tenacity, without profiling or the usual CCTV, it is expected to feature retro crime investigation drama, incorporating romance and joy of analog investigation.
This will provide a unique experience to the younger generation and a different kind of fun and emotion to the generation that remembers the activities of Chief Inspector Park.
Meet the 4 Detectives of Jongnam Police Circa 1958
Featuring four reckless and troublesome detectives from Jongnam Police Station, a group photo of Lee Je Hoon, Lee Dong Hwi, Choi Woo Sung and Yoon Hyun Soo was captured.
While the strong and eccentric and experienced detectives Park Young-han and Kim Sang-soon are expected to draw signature teamwork, the brainy new detectives’ Cho Kyung-hwan and Seo Ho-jung add value to the team.
First, Cho Kyung-hwan (Choi Woo Sung), a young man with great strength who carries a bag of rice in one hand, has a dependable and dignified appearance. Meanwhile, Seo Ho-jung (Yoon Hyun-soo), a student from an elite prestigious university who visits his regular bookstore as if is familiar, attracts attention with his neat appearance and intellectual aura.
Although they have no resemblance and seem distant from detectives, they later enter Jongnam Police Station completing the team with their strength and smarts.
In particular, the group photo of passionate detectives united by justice and loyalty also attracts attention. Park Young-han with a confident and relaxed smile, Kim Sang-soon with a consistently indifferent expression, Cho Kyung-hwan with a strong presence, and Seo Ho-jung with passion and motivation.
Their different charms come together, raising expectations as to what kind of team play they will create synergy with.
Rookies Choi Woo Sung and Yoon Hyun Soo, who are attracting attention, bring vitality to the series with their solid acting and distinct personalities.
Choi Woo Sung said, “I was familiar with the original ‘Chief of Investigation.’ The fact that it was a prequel rather than a reboot or spin-off was appealing. I always wanted to participate in detective dramas, so I became even more greedy, and I was honored to join through an audition like this.” . He continued, “I think the charm of the character ‘Cho Kyung-hwan’ is his anti-war beauty. On the outside, he looks strong and scary, but in reality, he is a warm and affectionate person.” Explaining the main focus of his acting, he said, “While the existing ‘Chief of Investigation’ highlighted the detectives’ expertise, I tried to capture Cho Kyung-hwan’s immaturity and the resulting dilemma.”
Yoon Hyun Soo also said, “I always receive a lot of support, but for this work, my grandfather and family supported me even more from the moment I auditioned. I remember preparing so hard for the audition. I was grateful to be able to participate, perhaps because of my earnest heart. When I read the script, I was very excited, and I wanted to go to the scene quickly. Expressing his feelings full of anticipation and excitement. Regarding his character ‘Seo Ho-jeong’, he said, “Sometimes he is too motivated and makes mistakes, but it was cool to see him working hard for his dream. Please watch as a young man who has spent his entire life studying gradually grows into a detective.”
Lee Je Hoon, Lee Dong Hwi, Choi Woo Sung, and Yoon Hyun Soo show off their teamwork and chemistry as good as the four detectives in the drama.
Lee Je Hoon said, “Choi Woo-sung and Yoon Hyun-soo were friends who were not only sincere but also had good energy. There were a lot of scenes where the four of us were hanging out together, and while filming, we felt a bond as a team. Thanks to the people who were with me, I felt reassured and didn’t feel lonely.”
“I hope you enjoy the ensemble we create. It is not easy to meet a team that works well together like this while working on a project, but I am grateful to have met such good people. “I think you can look forward to our collaboration,” Lee Dong Hwi said.
Choi Woo Sung said, “At first, I was very nervous at the thought of going out to solve a case with my respected seniors. Senior Lee Je Hoon actually took good care of me like a big brother in the investigation team. There were many times when he couldn’t stop laughing at senior Lee Dong Hwi’s witty remarks and ad-libs. Actor Yoon Hyun Soo also worked with me before, so I was able to film more happily.”
Lastly, Yoon Hyun-soo said, “These were such happy days that I thought I didn’t want this time to end. “Please look forward to the investigative harmony of the four detectives with different charms.”
