Joining the powerhouse cast are Lee Hee Joon, Kim Sung Kyun, Gong Seung Yeon and Lee Kwang Soo.
In Karma (WT), disparate lives intertwine under the ominous shadow of an unbreakable fate. The story revolves around a witness to an accident, a physician traumatized by nightmares, a man whose world was upended by an unexpected event, and another man drowning in private loans. Each one is bound by the inescapable ties of a terrible destiny, weaving a gripping crime thriller following those trapped by ill-fated entanglements.
Based on a Kakao webtoon of the same name, Karma (WT) depicts the entangled lives of those who, without knowing how or why, end up repeating their karmic cycle with one another.
Portraying the central figure in the series is Park Hae Soo (Squid Game, Narco-Saints, Prison Playbook). His character makes an irreversible deal after accidentally witnessing a mysterious accident.
The deal seemed to have been concluded as if nothing had happened, but his appearance as he faces unexpected developments due to his conflicting desires will create tension that will gravitate viewers to what his choices would be.
Shin Min Ah, who captivated viewers with her lovely charm through Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha and Our Blues, returns to the thriller genre after a long time since the drama Chief of Staff 1&2 and the movie Diva.
She plays a doctor who, one day, while living with a lifetime of trauma due to an incident she experienced as a child, encounters the person she never wanted to meet again. She prepares to show off yet another acting transformation by going back and forth between the extreme emotional lines of inner pain and revenge.
Aiming for a shot at life, he even took out private loans and invested in coins, but recorded negative rates of return and ended up in debt. Lee Hee Joon, the characters in the movies Miss Baek, The Man Standing Next, and more, who showed extraordinary character digestion and lively acting through dramas such as Mouse and Chimera, takes on the role.
He plans to draw viewers into a tough world of ‘evil relationships’ that they cannot escape, by convincingly depicting a character who is threatened and chased by a loan shark and will do anything to repay his debt.
Next, Kim Sung Kyun, who is active in various fields such as the DP series and Disney+ original Moving takes on the role of a character who falls into the shackles of ‘bad relationships’ after losing his job unfairly and being commissioned to do a job with a large amount of money at stake.
Next, the role of a successful oriental medicine doctor who runs a private hospital in Gangnam and has everything he wants, including a foreign car and a woman, will be played by Lee Kwang Soo. The actor enhances the character’s charm with his unique humorous acting in movies such as Sinkhole and The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure.
He plays a character whose daily life is completely changed by an accident while living a life of success. He is expected to increase immersion in the series with his delicate expressiveness.
Gong Seung Yeon, who has proven her wide acting spectrum through the drama The First Responders, is expected to add to the richness of the drama as the girlfriend of the successful Oriental medicine doctor played by Lee Kwang Soo and a character with the charm of a femme fatale.
Known for his top-grossing films, director Lee Il-hyung (A Violent Prosecutor and Remember) takes the helm as director and screenwriter of his first series, building a compelling story by giving depth to each character and anchoring them with difficult missions. As these goal-driven characters overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Lee weaves a suspenseful tale that promises to captivate viewers worldwide with the yoke of inauspicious fate.
The series is a collaborative effort between two prominent production companies, Moonlight Film and Baram Pictures. Moonlight Film’s track record includes films like Kundo: Age of the Rampant, A Violent Prosecutor, Money, and The Spy Gone North, as well as the Netflix series Narco-Saints. Baram Pictures has its own notable projects, including the Netflix series Kingdom: Ashin of the North and Song of the Bandits as well as dramas like Behind Every Star and Castaway Diva.
With the production and casting confirmed, anticipation among viewers for Karma continues to grow.
Karma will be released only on Netflix.
