“Gyeongseong Creature” To Take Viewers Back In Time To 1946 Seoul

In the latest teasers of Gyeongseong Creature, Park Seo Jun and Han So Hee completely transform into the youth of 1946.

The series also acquaints viewers with the main cast and first look at their characters.

Set to deliver thrill and action, Gyeongseong Creature follows individuals going up against monstrous creatures that were born out of human greed. Set in the spring of 1945, in the city of Gyeongseong, the series is highly anticipated due to the sheer amount of talent tied to it.

Gyeongseong is the former name of Korea’s capital city Seoul, and the name used during Japanese colonial rule. The upcoming series invites audiences to 1945 Gyeongseong, the hotbed of turmoil caused by creatures that suddenly appear and wreak havoc on an already troubled world.

International heartthrob Park Seo Joon, who received acclaim for his roles in the dramas Itaewon Class and What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, plays Jang Tae-sang – the head of a merchant marketplace Golden Jade House who is the wealthiest, most well-connected person in Gyeongseong. Tae-sang is someone who puts money before justice, but all that changes when he crosses paths with Yun Chae-ok while investigating a series of missing person cases.

Han So Hee, who rose to stardom from the Netflix Series My Name, The World of the Married and Nevertheless, plays Yun Chae-ok – a famous bounty hunter who can track down missing people, even ones who are dead. Chae-ok possesses a sharp eye and agile survival skills learned from her rough childhood roaming across Manchuria and Shanghai with her father.

Claudia Kim and Wi Ha Jun have both received international spotlight for their roles. Claudia Kim plays Maeda, who is the wife of a powerful official in Gyeongseong during the colonial period. The actress has been active on the global stage through the films Avengers: Age of Ultron and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and the Netflix Series Marco Polo.

Wi Ha-jun, who made a lasting impression on worldwide audiences with his role in Squid Game and is currently winning over viewers in Little Women, plays Gwon Jun-taek, Tae-sang’s best friend. He joins Tae-sang’s dangerous plan to rescue the people who have gone missing.

Meet The Main Cast of Gyeongseong Creature

Park Seo Jun plays Jang Tae-sang. With his flawless appearance and skillful management skills, he holds all the necessary information about money, goods, people, and even people’s lives.

In the character still, Park Seo Jun is completely transformed into Jang Tae-sang with neatly combed hair, a well-dressed suit, and confident eyes. Park Seo Jun believed that “the external appearance is also a device that represents the state of the mind,” and created the character by referring to the actual costumes of that era.

Commenting about her leading man, Han So Hee said, “He was there as Tae-sang on the set,” raising expectations for his passionate performance that was completely integrated with the character.

Meanwhile, Han So Hee plays Yoon Chae-ok who crosses from Manchuria to Gyeongseong with her father in search of clues about her missing mother and makes a deal with Jang Tae-sang. The actress highlights Chae-ok’s nimble movements and outspoken personality, saying, “She looks solid because she’s chasing one goal, but inside she lives suppressing a lot of emotions.” Han said she tried to delicately capture Chae-ok’s beliefs and emotional changes.

Returning praise to the female lead, Park Seo Jun said, “I think a good synergy has been created thanks to Han So-hee, who always does her best.” This raised expectations for the chemistry between the two, who played the roles of young people who live fiercely for survival.

In addition to Park Seo Jun and Han So Hee, the brilliant cast lineup that fills the play stands out.

Claudia Kim proves her global presence as Yukiko Maeda, a Japanese noblewoman who commands the Gyeongseong area. Maeda, who holds great power, treats her father-in-law like a friend, but all her suspicions are directed at him. She is also the benefactor of Ongseong Hospital. In her character photo, she wears a kimono and has a secretive smile that makes it impossible to tell her true intentions, raising curiosity about the narrative of her character.

Next, Kim Hae Sook personifies Na Wol-daek, the butler of Geumokdang, and takes center stage in the play with her seasoned acting. Na Wol-daek is like a family to Tae-sang and a strong supporter who protects the pawnshop when Tae-sang is away. The seasoned actress perfectly played the role of Na Wol-daek, with both the warmth and solid charisma of the pawnshop’s housekeeper.

Jo Han Chul takes on the role of Chae-ok’s father, Yoon Joong-won, heralding a scene-stealing performance. In order to find clues about his missing wife, Joong-won joins hands with Tae-sang and infiltrates Ongseong Hospital, where all secrets are hidden. Jo Han Chul adds a sense of stability to the play with his veteran acting.

Portraying Jang Tae-sang’s friend and independence fighter Kwon Jun-taek, is Wi Ha Jun. Jun-taek is the son of a wealthy family who has access to Ongseong Hospital, which is closed to everyone, but he secretly participates in the independence movement because he is ashamed of his pro-Japanese father. In the character still, Wi Ha Jun shows off his unique presence with a determined face toward independence, showing his firm belief and fighting spirit.

Gyeongseong Creature, a compelling story about wretched creatures and those who go up against them, will be released exclusively on Netflix. Part 1 will be released on December 22, 2023, and Part 2 on January 5, 2024.
