Premiering on September 1 Sunshine By My Side tells the story of a workplace newcomer and a divorcee who develop a healing relationship.
Co-led by Sean Xiao (肖战) and Bai Baihe (白百合), iQIYI original modern workplace drama Sunshine By My Side (骄阳伴我) will start to air on September 1.
The series follows the story of Jian Bing (简冰) (starring Bai Baihe), who has recently filed for a divorce, and Sheng Yang (盛阳) (starring Sean Xiao), who has waited to no avail for his one true love, as they coincidentally meet and fall in love, developing a marvelous journey of romance and growth.
Directed by Song Xiaofei (宋晓飞) and written by Li Xiao (李潇), the series sees an incredibly talented production team and cast. Song Xiaofei’s productions, namely Cow (斗牛) and Design of Death (杀生), had been nominated for the Taiwan Golden Horse Award for ‘Best Cinematography’ and Beijing Love Story (北京爱情故事) had been nominated for Macau’s International Film Festival for the stellar cinematography
This is not Song Xiaofei and Li Xiao’s first collaboration. Their last movie, Some Like It Hot (情圣), earned a commendable review of 7.6 on Douban.
Furthermore, other than the co-leads Sean Xiao and Bai Baihe being popular actors, their supporting cast, including Zhu Zhu (朱珠), who has been cast in numerous American series, Chinese National Theatre Actor Tian Yu (田雨), and actors Yuan Wenkang (袁文康) and Julia Xiang (向涵之), who have also earned themselves the title of ‘Golden Team’, garnering much anticipation.
Sunshine by My Side is one series that has attracted much attention even before its release and announcement, attracting over 433000 followers on their official Weibo. It even emerged as the 6th and 9th place on the entertainment trends list and the hot topic list respectively.
Within 15 minutes of the release date announcement, the Weibo post has garnered 174000 likes and numerous comments about their anticipation. This is definitely one series that you shouldn’t miss this year!
Jian Bing (starring Bai Baihe) is a well-known commercial director in the industry, while Sheng Yang (starring Sean Xiao) is a newcomer to society. The two happen to meet at a restaurant, one just ending a marriage and the other waiting for love in vain. These two strangers form a bond, unfolding a magical and romantic journey of love and growth.
With Sheng Yang’s companionship, Jian Bing regains confidence in life and love. Under Jian Bing’s guidance and encouragement, Sheng Yang grows from a naively impulsive young man into a sharp and talented one.
Together, they heal each other, grow together, and gradually develop feelings for each other. However, the unavoidable reality of differences in status and experience, family opposition, and rumours in the workplace, resulting in Jian Bing and Sheng Yang deciding to leave their future to time.
Three years saw them growing and changing in their own ways. With too many firsts in their lives dedicated to each other, it is this trust and experience that helps them become better versions of themselves.
After many twists and turns, the two find their way back to each other once again.
Sunshine by My Side will premiere globally on 1 September on iQIYI (www.iq.com & apps).
